In the midst of over 5300 finishers, over 100+ runners from the VAVi Half/Full Marathon training club competed the La Jolla Half Marathon on Sunday 4/26/09. Though the sun was out in almost full-force, the weather and conditions were nearly perfect with a cool seaside air temp in the low 60s!
Congratulations to all of the VAVi runners who have spent the last 13 weeks training for the big race. Over half of the runners competed in their “first” half marathon and achieved their number one goal!! This year’s training program also included more “hill” workouts than previous seasons.
Top 10 Finishers!!! It must have paid of . . . Two (2) TVRC runners finished in the top 10.
- Matt Tobe took 9th overall and 2nd in his division with a chip time of 1:20:29. This is Matt’s first season with the TVRC and is a “machine” stated by his fellow runners.
- Veteran Jessica Goertz who finished 3rd OVERALL WOMEN’S and 2nd in her age group with a 1:29:40 chip time! Jessica has been training exclusively with the VAVi running club for the last 3 years.
Both Matt and Jessica are continuing on the training towards the Rock-n-Roll marathon at the end of May!
